Robert KynclVice President of Global Content Partnerships at YouTube Robert Kyncl spoke during the Entertainment Matters keynote address at the 2012 International Consumer Electronics Show at the Las Vegas Hotel & Casino January 12, 2012 in Las Vegas, Nevada. YouTube announced in December that it logged 1 trillion hits in 2011 and is anticipating an even bigger year ahead as more politicians and newsmakers turn to the site to distribute Web ads, speeches and weekly video casts. Kyncl said all of the entertainment industry should be paying attention to Web video, predicting that soon 90 percent of Web traffic will be video.

Yet, from 2006 to 2009, not one female character was depicted in G-rated family films in the field of medical science, as a business leader, in law, or politics. In these films, 80.5% of all working characters are male and 19.5% are female, which is a contrast to real world statistics, where women comprise 50% of the workforce.

Since 90% of every dollar is spent offline within 10 miles of the home, one way forward is to use the Internet to bypass Big Media and other large corporations by hyperlocal serving of video ads. This means that when you watch an ad-supported video on the Internet that ad will be from a local business.

Groupon is one of the fastest growing companies in history and Groupon had the largest initial public offering since Google. Daily deals sites like Groupon have become a real advertising force recently but television is still the biggest form of advertising. Hyperlocal serving of online video ads will be much bigger market than daily deal sites like Groupon and Social Living.

This is the future that we need to be preparing our children for and it is covered at I-CAMP.
