Joanne Lang, AboutOne
We will be announcing about one per day the entrepreneurs selected for our web series The Alchemist of Entrepreneurship (http://bit.ly/sQcpXK). Expect the first trailer in early January.
Our first candidate for The Alchemist of Entrepreneurship is Joanne Lang:
Joanne Lang, AboutOne’s founder and CEO, is a mom of four young boys and a former SAP executive who wanted to capitalize on her experience with cloud technology to help busy moms manage family life. At SAP, she had seen how cloud computing and business software allowed businesses to eliminate mundane tasks and gain new levels of efficiency, and wanted to bring those same benefits to families.
Joanne felt she had an organized life, but that it was taking too much time and effort to be prepared—especially as a working mom. She was using LinkedIn to organize her career information and Facebook to organize her friend’s information, but there was no application available to help her organize the information that helped her family life run smoothly on a daily basis, such as her home, car and household records.
After several personal experiences where she needed information she didn’t have instant access to, many sleepless nights of personal deliberation (because she was the primary income earner in their home) and an alpha prototype in the hands of customers, Joanne made the leap to leave SAP in June 2010 to found AboutOne.
AboutOne beta was released first on stage at Venturebeat DEMO March 2011. Their Series A for $1.6M led by GoldenSeeds closed in November 2011 and version 2 of AboutOne (www.acornpoints.com) will be launched in January 2012 at CES MommyTECH with the support of many partners including Suze Orman (IDSafe) and Microsoft.
Joanne also wanted AboutOne to have a philanthropic mission and therefore supports Women’s Cancer (HERA), Homeless Teens (Opportunities) and Military Families (Operation Shower).
